Waterloo Road- Maxine's Death.
What atmosphere does the sequence have?how does it make you feel?who do you identify with?if anyone?
Within the sequence we get a cold vibe of Earl and a scared and vunerable Maxine. By starting the scene with them arguing we as the audience could tell something bad was going to occur. As part of the audience we feel empathy for Maxine however also feel empathy for her best friend Janice as she watched her best friend be killed, we also feel empathy for Maxines mum. This scene is full of many different emotions, however all the characters seem to be very vulnerable.
List and describe shot types, angles, movements and distance:
-Close up; filmed from shoulders up
-Medium Shot
-Long shot
-Two shot;shot of two characters engaging in conversation usually to signify/establish a type of relationship
-Handheld;creates realism (usually shaky movements)
-Point of View shot
-Tracking;camera moves on tracks to follow a subject at close proximity
-Depth of field
-Establishing shot; a shot that establishes a scene, often giving the viewer information about where the scene is
-Reaction shot;a shot that shows a reaction of a character or an event sequence
-Low angle
-High angle
-Tilt;a subtle movement on the verticle (up or down)
Take one area of focus(angles) and answer the following:how/why does the camera work make us feel this way?By using low angle shots when filming Earl (main boy character) adds atmosphere to the whole sequence as it gives him the sense of power and the superior role, however Maxine is filmed with high angle shots as shes the weaker source out of the two, throughout the sequence we see that by using high angle shots adds to her vulnerability.
