What are you seeing?
Lara Croft is fighting againest a robot to collect a talismen. She is shooting her pistols to try and kill it but doesnt realise the bullets are doing very little damage. She shoots a rope to release it and then swings across the room shooting a pillar to make it fall and crush the robot. After she thinks it is dead, she walks along the fallen pillar and then the robot comes back to life making her backflip off. She kills the robot by pulling the wires out of its back. She goes to collect the talisman and another robot appears. After she has deactivated it she takes it back to the man who built the robot as this was only a task to help her practice for such an event.
What kind of story is being told?
An action movie, containing a women who is trying to collect a certain piece of treasure.
What would you think about or how would you feel about this if all you saw was the visual image with no sound?
It wouldn't be the same or have the same effects. The audience would not feel as tensed or interested if it was all a visual image.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE SOUND?
How would you describe the music? speed rhythm etc
The more action movements that Lara does, the more dramatic the music is. This brings suspense to the audience as to whether or not she will survive.
Can you identify the different diegetic and non diegetic sounds?
The music that is playing whilst she is fighting the robot is non-diagetic, and the music she is playing when she defeats the robot is diagetic.
In what way does the sound add to the narrative?
It makes the storyline more exciting and it draws your attention to it, making it more entertaining for the audience to watch. Sound also helps you remember a bit more of the movie, for example, you remember the scene when she defeated the robot, she played music, and because it was contrapental, that helps you remember it more as well.
WHAT IS THE OVERALL EFFECT?
Does the sound reflect what is being shown on screen?
Yes it does. It does this by adding excitement to the scene, also dramatises and exaggerates the sequence.
When the music is combined with the visuals how does it make you feel?
It makes us as the audience feel more tense because it gives us a reaction. The music is well time with the sequences she is doing which makes us want to watch more, because the more timed the actions are with the music the more of an effect it gives us.
FORMULA:
What is happening visually + how would you describe the sound = what is the overall effect
