Sound in TV drama

What is happening Visually?
  • What are you seeing? within this opening scene we are introduced to Lara Croft, we see her trying to gain control of an object which is on the toomb stone, however the object is being guarded by robots, within the scene we see her fight with them.

  • What kind of story is being told? The narrative being told is Lara Croft trying to get the object upon the toomb stone which is being guarded. Within this scene we see that she is a strong woman as she gains control of the robot by the end of the scene.

  • What would you think about or how would you feel about this if all you saw was the visual image with no sound? Without sound you can can still understand the narrative as it is acted in detail however without the sound it doesnt give the same affect to the audience, the sound within this scene helps add atmosphere as it makes it more thrilling.
How would you describe the sound?
  • How would you describe the music? speed rythm etc...? the music within the scene is has a fast pace rythm as there is lots of running within the scene this is called a 'parrallel sound' as the music and action within the scene work with eachother.
  •  Can you identify the different diegetic and non diegetic sounds?
  • gunshots- diagetic
  • footsteps/running-diagetic
  • robot movements-diagetic
  • music within the scene-non diagetic

  • In what way does the sound add to the narrative?the sound adds to the narrative as it adds to the atmosphere, this is because by using a fast rythmed song adds to the pace she's moving and also how fast shes running, it also adds to the fight scenes as it shows the audience the fight is intense.
What is the overall effect?
  • Does the sound reflect what is being shown on screen? The sound does reflect what is being shown, as intense sounds are being played as the scene is intense. Parrallel sounds are used throughout the whole scene.

  • When the music is combined with the visuals how does it make you feel?Without the music the scene seems less instense and dramatic however with the music it pin points specific intense moments and adds to the scene.
