Camera Work Analysis

Waterloo Road - Maxine dies
What atomosphere does the sequence have? How does it make you feel?
The scene opens with a scared female character argueing with her boyfriend, which we assume as there was many two shots with them in conversation. At the beginning of the sequence, the acting and background music already portray to the audience that something bad is going to happen. .The atomosphere was full of tension and emotion. It made us feel anxious, scared and sympathy for the female character.

List and describe shot types, angles, movement and distance
-Close up - creates emotion and symathy for the character.
-High angle - shows the superior character.
-Medium shot - camera quite close to the subject usually waist up.
-Deep focus - shows the audience whats going on in the foreground and background.
-Handheld - used to create realism, urgency and sudden figure movement.
-Long shot - shot from a distance.
-Selective focus - particular part of the frame is focused and the rest blurred.
-Point of view shot
-Two shot - shows the audience a shot of two characters engaging in conversation, to signify some sort of relationship.
-Reaction shot - a shot that shows the reaction of a character towards another character or event.
-Tracking - camera moves on tracks to follow a subject at close proximity.
-Tilt - a subtle movement on the vertical.

How and why does the camerawork (angles) make us feel and why?
Earl (male) had low angle shots throughtout the sequence to represent that he is the superior character. The only time he had a high angle shot was when the police surrounded him, which shows the audience that the police and now more superior than him. Maxine (female) had high angle shots throughtout to show that she is vulnerable and to show the audience that she was smaller than Earl. Another example of Earl being the superior character is when he throws Janice (Maxines friend) onto the sofa and points a gun at her. This is filmed with a high angle shot so that we can see that she is scared and vulnerable of Earl.
